The ozone layer is a layer of gas located in the Earth’s atmosphere whose function is to preserve and protect life on the planet from ultraviolet rays from the Sun. This layer is responsible for a large percentage of the Sun’s rays not remaining trapped on Earth, being bounced back into space.

Nevertheless, human activity has caused much pollution for many years, dramatically destroying the Earth’s ozone layer. The main consequence of this is the rapid increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, leading to a drastic increase in the average global temperature.

Thus, human beings must become aware of this serious problem and take measures to reduce the impact of these greenhouse effects. Contrarily, more people will have skin cancer, more ice will continue melting at the poles, and more animals like polar bears or penguins will be extinct.

In the case of the hydrocarbon sector, oil and gas companies have always tried to operate and extract these natural resources responsibly and efficiently; however, pollution can never be zero.

For this reason, companies in the energy sector have sought alternatives to further reduce pollution from oil and gas activity. Furthermore, in that manner, the concept of “Carbon Capture and Storage” and “unburnable carbon” have emerged.
