I recount the memorable day that I witnessed the play: “Death Note – The Musical.” Death Note is considered one of the best manga of all time and therefore I did not miss the opportunity to see the characters in real life.

Tokyo - In January 2020 I got sick. I didn’t know what I had, I just couldn’t breathe, I woke up with a slight pain in my throat and some discomfort in my temple. I made an appointment with the general doctor but his diagnosis was useless, I continued to feel bad. Because of this, in my second appointment, I was referred to a specialist, the otolaryngologist… a Japanese female doctor who was probably in her 50s. I told her that maybe I had the coronavirus. She hesitated. In 2020, COVID-19 became a pandemic by the end of February. We were in January and for her that was impossible. Rather, she told me that I had a deviated septum and that I needed a surgery to no longer have the discomfort. At first I doubted it but after a few hours I ended up accepting, because even though I thought I had COVID-19, no doctor wanted to check it.

That same afternoon I settled the date of my operation. The doctor explained to me that I was going to be hospitalized for 7 days as a precaution. 1 day before the operation and 6 days after it. In other countries, the usual thing is that the operation is in the morning and in the afternoon you are back home, but I was in Japan and here the service is more meticulous. When I got home, my friend Mingran told me about “Death Note – The Musical.” Curiously, the dates of the musical coincided with my hospitalization, that is, I could not attend the musical, unless, of course, I leave the hospital without being noticed. In the following video I show you the memorable day where I left the hospital for a few hours to witness the musical of one of my favorite mangas:

A manga, if you are not aware of it, is intrinsic to the Japanese culture. In simple words, it is a graphic novel or comic that has the seal of Japan. Among all the mangas that exist, Death Note is considered one of the best. It began to be serialized in 2003 and who would have thought that 17 years later, the musical would still sell out at the Toshima Art and Culture Theater (located in the city of Tokyo). In this manga, a high school student finds a book that allows him to kill anyone just by writing the name. This motivates him to clean up the world by getting rid of all the bad people; however, an enigmatic character nicknamed L will challenge him in the name of justice…

Well, and regarding my operation, everything went very well. I have breathed again, but of course I will never know if that was the cause of the discomfort or perhaps it was the coronavirus…
